In the third millennium, man with a great wealth of experiences and scientific findings is searching for prosperity and happiness (a healthy life with security). And yet in the advanced capitalistic societies this goal has not been actualized as intended. Statistics regarding some serious ethical and social problems indicate that there are considerable gaps in the lives of modern man who has reached the material wellbeing.
It seems that with all the attempts that man makes to gain happiness and prosperity the missing element is the proper worldviews and sound guiding ideology. In other words, because of the ignorance of the existential aspects of man and his/her complexities, common ways of thought in the western societies has not led him/her to true happiness and prosperity.
The goal of the present article is to make a comparative study of two ways of thought in the realm of economics: the classic school which is the foundation of modern capitalism, and the school of Islamic economy. Regarding this goal the worldviews, the presuppositions, the definition of human happiness, and the frames of thought of the two schools are explored. At the end, through considering the indicators related to the happiness and prosperity, the outcome of capitalistic system implementation in the western societies will be discussed.
